The Ruby’s Cookbook Club is a combination potluck and book club. Participants should cook a dish from the book (at least 6 servings).
We'll be cooking/mixing from and discussing Cócteles de Temporada by Casa Ojo (designed by Jillian Knox and Celeste Prevost) and, because we can't fully drink our dinner, we'll also feature recipes from The Baja California Cookbook by David Castro Hussong and Jay Porter (also designed by Jillian!).
Both Jillian and Celeste will be joining us for dinner and drinks!
We'll have a copy of both of the books at the Ruby. You're welcome to review the Ruby library copies, borrow The Baja California Cookbook from the library or local bookstore, and/or purchase a limited edition copy of Cócteles de Temporado directly from Jillian and Celeste (get in touch with us at events@therubysf.com to connect). Sign up for a dish or cocktail here.
***A note about health and safety: This event is open only to vaccinated individuals providing proof of vaccination. We will cap cookbook club attendance at 18 and will be eating and discussing on our outdoor patio****
About Cócteles de Temporada
Cócteles de Temporada is a project created by Casa Ojo to dive deeper into their passion for craft and combines food, drink, and storytelling with an art-forward slant by partnering with a diverse creative team.
Cócteles de Temporada Spring/Summer Vol. 1 showcases a gathering of talented creatives, and culinary professionals from the United States and Mexico. You’ll find recipes for beautifully crafted cocktails that embrace non alcoholic, low ABV, cannabis, and alcoholic spirits. Tasty seasonal food recipes accompany each season. It is a bilingual book.
About Jillian Knox
Jillian Knox is an interdisciplinary polymath artist who hails from Washington, DC and is based in San Francisco, California. She is a Stylist and Art Director with a background in photography. She particularly enjoys making cookbooks, and mostly anything involving food. Jillian’s greatest joy is telling cultural stories; honoring food, lifestyle, and history through visual media creates permanence and artifacts for future generations. When Jillian isn’t working you’ll likely find her abroad with her film cameras…and eating.
About Celeste Prevost
Celeste Prevost is a graphic designer in San Francisco, California. When she’s not meticulously crafting icon systems, or listening to podcasts, she’s on her bike, gardening, or cooking up something scrumptious. Celeste is also one half of the duo, Math Times Joy; a graphic design studio based in San Francisco with an appetite for working with good people, and a taste for making things simpler, smarter and more enjoyable for all.
About The Baja California Cookbook
From Baja wine country to incredible seafood along the coast, Baja cuisine showcases grilled meats, freshly caught fish, and produce straight from the garden, all mingled with the salt spray of the Pacific Ocean.
Inspired by the incredible local landscape and his food from the award-winning restaurant Fauna, star chef David Castro Hussong conducts a dreamy exploration of Baja cuisine featuring 60 recipes ranging from street food such as Grilled Halibut Tacos and Chicharrones to more refined dishes such as Grilled Steak in Salsa Negra and Tomatillo-Avocado Salsa. Each chapter features gorgeous photographs of the region and profiles of top food purveyors are scattered throughout, bringing the spirit of Baja into your kitchen, no matter where you live.
