In the writing world, there’s a lot of pressure to apply for prestigious workshops, residencies, fellowships, and conferences to find opportunities, improve craft, and build a community. But applications can be pricey and time-consuming. For writers with limited time (which is all of us) applying for these opportunities can take time away from the writing itself.
The Ruby Writing Accountability Group isn’t a traditional residency or workshop, but we are a warm and supportive community and space to write! All Rubies are welcome, whether you’re grinding on the umpteenth revision of your novel manuscript or just starting your poetry collection or zine. We offer two options for getting involved:
Twice-monthly write-ins at The Ruby: We’ll meet twice a month at The Ruby, Thursdays from 6-8 pm. During the first 30 minutes, we’ll check in, discuss our works-in-progress, and share short craft talks. A different Ruby will have the opportunity to lead the craft talk at each meeting. We’ll spend the next 90 minutes writing in The Ruby. You can attend these sessions as often or as infrequently as you’d like; there’s no commitment to join every time.
Remote accountability group on Slack: To complement the write-ins, we’ll start up a Slack group for remote accountability check-ins. Join this virtual space to discuss your projects and get support, share your goals, celebrate milestones, and share resources like submissions and fellowship opportunities. And when you’re feeling discouraged with the writing or publishing process, this group is here to give you a boost!
