[IRL] Gentle Movement for Embodiment and Intuition

This is an experimental workshop rooted in Pilates that frames movement as a way of inhabiting and getting to know your body, rather than as a means of escape or punishment. I will guide you through a 30-45 minute gentle Pilates practice that introduces concepts such as proprioception and interoception. In this workshop, movement will be presented as a way to: strengthen your intuition, help your body move with more ease, and make your body a more familiar place to yourself.

About the Instructor:

Natalie So is a writer and researcher who happened on Pilates seven years ago — and it completely changed her relationship with movement and her body (after stints as a runner, athlete, exercise fanatic, etc.). While she was pregnant in 2022, she was certified as a Pilates mat instructor through Body Harmonics in Oakland, with an interest in how movement can make us more embodied, intuitive, and creative humans.

Class Notes:

* Please wear clothing you feel comfortable moving in. I will ask you to remove your shoes but socks are welcome.

* All instruction is optional depending on whatever is comfortable and doable for your own body. If you have any injuries, conditions, or any other concerns that the instructor should know about, please email Natalie beforehand.
