We are currently in the process of establishing a monthly social science fiction (+) workshop at The Ruby. By social science fiction, we mean science fiction that is literary (or poetic) and also science fiction that is deeply concerned with relationships, power relations and ecologie(s). Some notable works we look at are The Dispossessed' by Ursula Le Guin, Vagabonds Hao Jingfang and The Xenogenesis Trilogy by Octavia Butler. By +, we mean that we are also open to Ruby members working in poetry and/or essay and/or multi-form writing projects (games, etc.) that intersect with the above themes. We currently have three members, and are ideally looking for three more. - - - This first meeting will just be very casual. We will do introductions, and have people go in a round, presenting on a past, current or intended project in this space. If you'd like to read a bit from the project, that would be great, but it's not required.
**Please note that this group is for Ruby members**
About the Organizer
Ari Kalinowski (they/them) founded and runs Delta_Ark, a speculative ecology studio (http://delta.center/). The studio’s current work is a sequence of interactive virtual environments and audio-visual experiences that embody different relationships between humans (or human-like entities), artificial intelligences (of various powers) and animals, in different science fiction contexts, often involving precipitous technological change, climate change or the far future.
