Join us for a virtual short story workshop hosted by Rachel Khong, author of GOODBYE, VITAMIN, with support from the SF Arts Commission.
How does a story get written? What can a short story do? This is a workshop for anyone who has ever been interested in writing short stories, whether you are a seasoned writer of fiction, or someone who’s just story-curious. In this virtual workshop, Rachel Khong will share her experience writing three short stories over the course of a year as a San Francisco Arts Commission Grant recipient. Through exercises and prompts, we’ll investigate our own preferences, get in touch with our intuition, and generate new writing. No prior experience is required, just curiosity and an open mind. Come prepared to write and participate. This virtual event is free and open to the public; please register to reserve your spot.
A companion booklet, designed by Ruby member Helen Shewolfe Tseng, goes along with this workshop. This booklet is intended to be an accompanying “textbook”: including the three stories written during the course of Rachel's grant term, as well as exercises and prompts for you to write your own. (If you are a Ruby member, join us for a day assembling booklets on October 12.)
Bay Area non-Ruby members, pick up your free booklet at Dog Eared Books on Valencia or Green Apple Books on the Park from October 15 to October 25 by showing your event confirmation at the cash register. Unable to pick up your booklet in person? Request to have it mailed to you by filling out this form - https://forms.gle/SbgBXQJAVJkFgRPF8 - by October 16. (A PDF of the booklet will be provided, as well.)
