Join us in celebrating author Charlotte Druckman's new book, Women on Food, with a panel with contributors and local Bay Area–based food writers. Charlotte brings together some of the most vital voices in food writing, and for this event will be joined by Soleil Ho, Tienlon Ho, and Ellen Fort, to discuss what it means to be a female writer, critic, or editor working in food in the #MeToo era, the challenges of gender bias, how to cover the shifting restaurant industry, and more, plus an exploration of what’s changed, what hasn’t and what must.
Charlotte Druckman's Women on Food is an urgent, moving and often humorous collection of exclusively commissioned essays, interviews, questionnaires and illustrations by more than 115 diverse female voices in the food industry including Soleil Ho, Nigella Lawson, Tejal Rao, Diana Henry, Carla Hall, Samin Nosrat, Rachael Ray, and more. Exploring issues ranging from the #MeToo movement, gender bias in division of labor and the workplace, and the underrepresentation of women of color in leadership, to cultural trends including food and travel shows, the intersection of fashion and food, and the evolution of food writing in the last few decades — Women on Food brings together food’s most vital female voices.
Charlotte is the author of Stir, Sizzle, Bake and Skirt Steak: Women Chefs on Standing the Heat and Staying in the Kitchen and coauthor of Anita Lo’s Cooking Without Borders. Her work has appeared in various publications, including the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit, EATER, Martha Stewart Living, Cherry Bombe, and ELLE.
