Behind The Scenes of SF Restaurants. Part I: Bringing Concepts to Life

Want to learn more about the behind-the-scenes of operating a restaurant in San Francisco?

Interested in restaurant investing but don’t know where to start?

The Ruby and The Third Place are pleased to present a two-part panel series on 11/12 and 11/19 to demystify what it’s like to start, operate and invest in restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area.

For Part I of the panel on 11/12, restaurant owners will share their experiences navigating the challenges of bringing food concepts to live in San Francisco. Their experiences range from starting and operating an established restaurant, to building a following as a pop-up, to streamlining a fast-casual concept for expansion.

Speakers:

Gwyneth Borden is the Founder of Ground Floor Experiences, LLC, a consultancy focused on restaurants, strategic advice and thought leadership. Until recently, Gwyneth served as the Executive Director of the Golden Gate Restaurant Association. Prior to that, Gwyneth spent 10 years at IBM as the Manager of Corporate Citizenship & Corporate Affairs.

Gwyneth currently serves on the boards of SFFILM and Women Chefs & Restaurateurs, and Wells Fargo’s Community Advisory Board.

Nicole Krasinski is the co-owner/pastry chef of The Progress and State Bird Provisions. She’s the author of the book “State Bird Provisions: A Cookbook”, and the winner of the James Beard Foundation Award for "Best Chef: West" in 2015.

Kristina Compton is the co-founder and chef of Hilda and Jesse, an all-day breakfast restaurant concept and a popular pop-up that has amassed a loyal following. Prior to that, she has served as Chef de Cuisine at Avery, Executive Sous Chef at Atelier Crenn, and Sous Chef at Mosu, Range, and Haven/Plum.

Ina Lee is the owner and founder of Matko, a fast-casual restaurant featuring healthy, homestyle Korean meals. Prior to this, she created Hwaro and Bi Bim Bar. Ina is working to bring Matko to New York, and expand to a few more locations in San Francisco.
