Working Moms: A discussion for moms (and anyone who might want to be one someday)

"The obligation for working mothers is a very precise one: the feeling that one ought to work as if one did not have children, while raising one's children as if one did not have a job." —Annabel Crabb (Australian political journalist)

Working moms face unique challenges balancing the demands of work and child-rearing. We're also expected to separate these two halves of our lives, leaving all kid-related concerns at home (or risk having co-workers and bosses assume we're not dedicated to our work) and all work-stress at the office (or risk "damaging" our kids by not giving them enough attention). During round-table talk (with snacks and wine!) we'll talk working while being a mom, and being a mom while working. This will be an opportunity for moms to support one another in this tricky and important work and to share tips on everything from childcare to balancing parenting duties with our partners to bringing kids along on work-related travel. Non-moms who are thinking about having kids someday are also encouraged to come and join the conversation.

If you have any topics you'd particularly like to discuss with the group or any questions you'd like to ask, please email staff@therubysf.com
